Curtis is the daughter of Carmencita Ojales, a Filipina native to Bolinao Pangasinan, and James Ernest Curtis Smith who is an Australian attorney. Born in Yarrawonga located in Victoria, Australia. Her father got married Ojales at the age of 22 in 1982. Her youngest sister Jasmine has also become an actor. Their father was an older half-sister named Clare, who passed away in 2007 at age four months due to cardiovascular disease.
